PHUKET: A Chinese tourist attempted to take her own life when she slit her throat with a kitchen knife at Supalai Resort and Spa Phuket in Thalang this morning.
Police are investigating the circumstances following 46-year-old Yan Wenhong’s attempted suicide, after rescue workers rushed her to Thalang Hospital.
Ms Yan and four of her friends had checked into the resort at about 2pm yesterday with their tour group, said Lt Kraisorn Boonprasop of the Thalang Police, who declined to name the tour company.
“Her tour guide told us that she appeared to be under a great deal of stress and was hallucinating, so the guide took her to Thalang Hospital to get some medication on January 30,” Lt Kraisorn said.
“This morning, when she was walking past the resort’s kitchen with one of her friends, she grabbed a knife and slashed her own throat.”
Police have gathered evidence at the scene.
“We will question witnesses to ensure that there isn’t more to this case,” Lt Kraisorn said.
Ms Yan slipped into a coma and is under observation at Vachira Phuket Hospital.
