Young People’s Party dominates municipal elections

PHUKET: Results of the election for the Phuket Municipal Council have been released: the Young People’s Party won 13 seats, the Creative Party four seats, and the People’s Party one seat. Of the municipality’s 42,378 registered voters, only 53% voted in the election. Current Mayor Phumisak Hongyok is a member of the Young People’s Party so it appears likely that the Muncipal Council will again select him to be Mayor of Phuket Town. The candidates receiving the highest number of votes were Suwit Sa-ngeimkul, Creative Party, 9,739 votes; Mayor Phumisak Hongyok, Young People’s Party, 9,488 votes; and Niwas Aroonrat, Young People’s Party, 9,284 votes.
