Phuket Property: A fine finish for your pool

PHUKET: Currently expanding their operation in Phuket, Pebble Pools is leading the charge to bring an innovative and superior swimming pool surfacing product to the Thailand Market. Trained and certified by market-leading American company Pebble Technology Inc, Pebble Pools’ staff are able to surface any pool in Thailand with a patented, fine aggregate pebble finish – which has been developed continuously for over 20 years by Pebble Technology.

The Gazette spoke to Pebble Pools manager Steve Derkland about the aesthetic and financial benefits of using their products.

“Aesthetically it’s a lot prettier than tiles because you don’t have the grout lines and it’s also safer because it’s a non slip surface,” said Steve.

“You know when you look out into the ocean and it looks blue or green, that’s the reflection of the sun in the water. That’s what our product does, it gives your pool water a natural color. When your swimming in the water, it is a completely different experience to swimming in a tiled pool,” he said.

The products used by Pebble Pools are all imported directly from the United States, where Pebble Technology sources high quality naturally tumbled stones – typically from such sites as river beds and beaches – which are then mixed with cement, water and additives in a unique formula perfected over years of research and experience.

Once the pool shell has been prepared, the mixture is then pneumatically sprayed onto the surface to create an even and smooth finish. The product comes in a range of 10 different colors to suit the look the customer wants to achieve. The entire coating process usually takes only one day to complete and the resultant finish is likely to well-outlast tiles and other common pool surfaces. The company backs up this claim with a five-year warranty on their product.

“The inorganic dyes, which have been developed by Pebble Technology – they are the best dyes in the world – that’s why we can offer the five-year warranty,” says Steve.

The pebble surface not only lasts longer, but according to Steve, there are several other benefits that make it a financially sound option.

“In Thailand, the water chemistry is so hard to keep correct, because you have torrential rains, and then the heat, and if you have a tiled pool, the tile grout deteriorates and sometimes the tiles need replacing in as little as five years.

“There are pools done with this [Pebble Technology] surface that are 12 years old and look as good as they did the day they were finished. That’s what’s so great about this product, once you’ve done it, there is no more down time. That’s why it’s so great for resorts,” he said.

The Pebble Technology surface is now one of the most commonly used in the US market and Steve is working hard to ensure its popularity and success here in Thailand.

Steve is clearly confident in the quality of the product he is offering – and it seems that his customers agree – Pebble Pools has worked with both commercial and residential customers all over Thailand and business is booming.

“We have a full schedule, we are currently working on a large resort pool for Aspasia hotel in Karon and we are doing several private residences in Patong. Our biggest market is in Phuket but we’ve got some big projects coming up in Hua Hin and we go all over Thailand.”

The booming market in Phuket has also led the company to expand their warehouse in Karon and begin to centralize their operation in Phuket.
