PHUKET: The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has given 48 radio stations in border provinces in the South the permission in principle to go on air during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Colonel Pramote Prom-in, spokesman for the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) Region 4’s forward command, said yesterday that the idea was to have the radio stations in Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla’s four districts to support Islamic religious activities during Ramadan, which runs from June 28 to July 27.

The radio stations will also back the authorities’ moves to boost public understanding of the actions taken by ill-intentioned people, he added. The Isoc Region 4 yesterday invited related officials to set a guideline for implementation.
