Minitry in pubic gaffe
BANGKOK: The Ministry of Public Health issued impressive banners to be hung in hospitals around the country earlier this month. Their purpose was to promote the new 30-baht medical scheme. A few days after the banners were flying, the ministry recalled them – urgently. To make spelling mistakes in government is embarrassing enough, but this particular gaffe caused a serious loss of face, for underneath the ministry’s logo there appeared in English: “Minitry of Pubic Health.” To fix the signs, stickers with the correct spelling were glued over the offending line, thus correcting any misunderstanding that the 30-baht scheme applies solely to problems of the crotch.
