1,000 baht for 841 Km. 400 baht for 6 Km. Let’s do the maths.

“I arrived in Phuket 7am this morning after taking the overnight bus from Bangkok. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve done that, and I was impressed. I travelled on the VIP bus for just under 1,000 baht. Big seats, lots of leg room and decent drivers. All in all, a good service for a fair price.

I arrived at the Phuket Bus Terminal 2, headed to the taxi rank and was stung for 400 baht from the terminal to Heroines Monument. 15mins up the road. Ouch.

1,000 baht for a 13-hour bus journey (841 kilometres), 400 baht for 15 minutes (6 kilometres) in a clapped out barely road-worthy green-plated taxi.

So, here I was today in a legal green-plated taxi that has had more re-sprays than Cher has had plastic surgery, and is literally being held together by the latest paint job. Rust hidden under the paint, the car was shaking all the way. First gear didn’t appear to work but second and third did as long as you rammed it in a few times.”
