Phuket Governor urges officials, public to abide by PM’s declaration

PHUKET: As Thailand enters a period of mourning following yesterday’s announcement from the Bureau of the Royal Household that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at 3:52pm, Phuket Governor Chokchai Dejamorthan expressed his deepest condolences and ordered officials to strictly abide by a declaration issued by the Prime Minister’s office.

In a televised announcement yesterday evening, Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha said the country now enters a one-year period of mourning over the loss of His Majesty, and urged all sectors in society to refrain from holding entertainment activities for one month.

Government agencies nationwide are flying flags at half mast for 30 days and government officials will wear black for a year.

Private firms are free to use their own judgment, the statement added.

Gov Chokchai stated that Phuket officials are ready to work with all sectors to maintain respect and decorum to honor HM the King.

“Please carefully consider what you share on social media; only government declarations are prioritized,” said Gov Chokchai.
