Phuket schools get ‘drugged up’

PHUKET: The Phuket Public Health Office (PPHO) and island pharmacists have joined forces to provide every Phuket school with a free medicine cabinet and first-aid training.

The project, “Medicine Cabinets Donated to the Community”, was arranged by the PPHO, Phuket Pharmacists Association and Phuket Drug Shop Association.

Paiboon Upatising, president of Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor), presided over the launch of the project at the meeting hall of Plookpanya Municipal School in Phuket City on Saturday.

The participants, who donated 102 drugs cabinets to Phuket schools, will also arrange training sessions for the schools in the use of drugs and hold first aid-demonstrations.

There were more than 60,000 students in Phuket and that it was crucial for schools to have fully stocked medicine cabinets, Mr Jindi said.

The project will ensure that students received the right drug treatments and first aid in case of accidents. It will also ensure that the teachers and assistants who look after children are well informed about first-aid and are able to effectively treat minor illnesses and injuries.

Among the many local dignitaries in attendance were Phuket Mayor Somjai Suwansupapana; Suthep Wechakun from Phuket Primary Educational Service Area Office; Churaeng Wechaprasit, president of Phuket Pharmacists Association; Jindi Santikayawakun, president of Phuket Drug Shops Association and representatives of participating companies.
